Does nyonefind it strange that the trip that is up for a prize and that the name drawn has to call in within 10 minutes and 10 seconds. Is this a new slant to the big prizes. Oh well at least there is a prize other than DVD and books. Anyone have a comment

I think its a good idea to get people to listen at different times instead of just coming on here to get points and not be involved in the broadcast. I entered in and i will be listening at that time. I think its a great idea so long as they only do it with popular/expensive prizes like trips.

Calling in for the prize in 10 min 10 sec has been used in the past for quite a while...this is not new....This was often used in the past when people entered contest via reg. mail..I guess it is a way to get people to listen more...hearing the winner's voice on air makes it perhaps more real...Glad to see a great prize up for grabs...MM

Actually I think this is a TERRIBLE IDEA, First OF all, you have to "buy" the ticket, which should ensure that the name drawn is in fact the winner. Some people work in say Health industries, etc., anyway 24/7 type jobs, and may not be able to listen at certain times. That's fine if it's just a regular call in contest, but if you buy tickets....why would you use your points if you can't listen at that time. This is 2009 and not everyone has 9 to 5 jobs (this seems kind or discriminatory to me). I have this same problem with CHFI, which I've written to regarding, as I refuse to "buy" tickets (and waste my points) to something I very rarely have an opportunity to listen to...They now have recently started draws in the drive home show too. Maybe they are getting it finally, and Newtalk is definitely behind the times, and playing catch up!

Well you know what if you cant call in at that time then dont enter the contest its not like they are forcing you and still the points are FREE so its not like you loose anything anyways. if you had to write in you would have to pay postage and still have to listen anyways.

Risk 05 that was before the "rewards" program began, to write in and then listen makes perfect sense. The rules here have been constantly changing since Cristina has been gone. I realise the points are free, but a raffle is a raffle, if it was purely call/text in it would not be an issue at all to me. If my name was drawn in a raffle I always won that prize - and I have a won a few. I'm not being greedy, I'm being realistic, it's just another way for the station to get cheap with the prizes!
This texting in is so yuppie too... it doesn't seem to fit their demograph. I don't know about you, but I have enough technology rammed down my throat, and texting is the new icing on the cake. I have trouble seeing up close, which is as I get older, getting worse. I worked for an eye doctor and that's very common as your eye muscles don't adjust as quickly as when u were 20 or 30 years old. I don't know why they think 20 year olds may be listening, I have 2 sons in that age group...totally uninterested in a Newtalk Radio Station, they listen to the radio for MUSIC. They will however watch the news on TV.

My job involves shift work and i cannot listen to the radio unless I am on break or having lunch or supper. That is why this blog is so helpful and why calling in to the station would not be easy. I did win a trip once, over ten years ago and got called at home by Mike Stafford when my name was drawn. Fortunately, my husband answered the phone, since I was at work.

Actually I see "rewards" going the way it did on Virgin Radio. This new call in for a raffle ticket purchase takes the cake. There have been no good prizes up for bids lately (the only sure thing, if you have saved your points), but there are good prizes in the raffles...seems to me many prizes in the raffles were also up for bids. Nothing but DVDs and books there recently.

Look i know i might come across condescending or a jerk but really changing times calls for changing programs and solutions. 1010 has been dropping in ratings for years and they havent changed until recently. Which from a marketing standpoint means that they should be changing. And no i am not in marketing i am in electronics and i am 25 years old. I have heard about CFRB in the past and it was really boring but i have been listening daily for about a year now and i am loving the new programming and structure of the station. Maybe they are getting more ratings now then before. If they are then they must be doing something right.

I have won two trips in the last six years that way on cfrb, the second trip you had to eamil in and if drawn you had ten minutes and ten seconds to call in. it's much better than rewards points you actually have to participate

I agree with many of you re: calling in if name is called. It is true not everyone will be listening at that time...whether a person is working or just sleeping in on a Sat. morning. Why not just have the winners name announced on air?...This way it would be fair to all and EVERYONE would have the same opportunity to enter...MM

To Risk_05, your are kidding when you say CFRB was boring in the past? What do you call it now? When all you get is guys, we need more women on prime time radio. Mon-Fri all you get is testosterone. And Bill & John better watch their backs. The Mots moved air time three times in the last seven years -- and then out the door they went. Bill and John have both moved two times in less than four years! Look out! I'm 50, and have lessoned to the station for ten years, NOW its boring.
